Glifaa’s advocacy work to advance workforce equity has achieved significant results over the past thirty years, as demonstrated by the development of more inclusive government human resources policies, new administrative, legal, and legislative protections for LGBTQIA+ employees and their families, and an expanded U.S. foreign policy focus on promoting LGBTQIA+ rights as human rights.
In December 2021, 120 members responded to the glifaa board’s 2021-2022 policy priorities survey. These members identified the following issues as glifaa’s top three policy priorities:
- Securing accreditation of same-sex spouses at all posts worldwide
- Advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA)
- Expanding access to LGBTQIA+ healthcare
The glifaa board engages U.S. government leadership at all levels to advance these priorities throughout the year. In addition to these top priorities, we regularly consult with State Department, USAID, and other agency leadership on a wide range of LGBTQIA+ matters.
The glifaa board also conducts individual advocacy on behalf of dozens of individual government employees and applicants confronting workforce equity concerns related to LGBTQIA+ status.
