Glifaa’s advocacy work to advance workforce equity has achieved significant results over the past thirty plus years, as demonstrated by the development of more inclusive government human resources policies, new administrative, legal, and legislative protections for LGBTQIA+ employees and their families, and an expanded U.S. foreign policy focus on promoting the human rights of LGBTQIA+ persons.

Glifaa’s top policy priorities can be summarized as follows:

  • Securing equitable accreditation of same-sex spouses at all posts worldwide
  • Increasing LGBTQIA+ representation, especially at the senior ranks
  • Expanding access to LGBTQIA+ healthcare

Our membership affirmed these priorities most recently in a January 2023 survey. Additionally, glifaa enhances community building and advocacy at posts around the world, provides professional development and mentorship opportunities, and supports parents of LGBTQIA+ children.

The glifaa board engages with U.S. government leadership at all levels to advance these priorities throughout the year, and consults regularly with a range of stakeholders on LGBTQIA+ matters.
