Today, on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), we remember, honor, and thank the human rights advocates who have led the ongoing global fight for equality. For more than 30 years, glifaa members have striven to combat discriminatory practices within U.S. government foreign affairs agencies and advance the human rights of LGBTQI+ persons worldwide. Our work dismantles barriers preventing the U.S. diplomatic corps from reflecting the full diversity of the American people and supports local LGBTQI+ civil society advocates.
The glifaa board applauds the U.S. commitment to promote and protect the human rights of LGBTQI+ people around the world through our diplomacy and foreign assistance. We extend special gratitude to U.S. Special Envoy to Advance the Human Rights of LGBTQI+ Persons Jessica Stern and her team for their leadership in making equality the centerpiece of U.S. diplomacy, and we reaffirm our commitment to advancing human rights for every person, everywhere – regardless of who they are or whom they love.
